We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Custody Mental Health Specialist to join our team at the Department of Corrective Services.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals in custody. As a Custody Mental Health Specialist, you will work closely with prisoners, providing comprehensive counselling services to address a wide range of psychological and emotional issues.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively to enhance the overall well-being of inmates through tailored support and interventions. This role involves fostering a positive and rehabilitative environment, promoting resilience, and supporting individuals on their recovery journey.

About the Team

The Psychological Health Service is responsible for clinical assessment and intervention to prisoners who are at acute risk or suicide or self-harm, have mental health issues, or are having difficulties coping, adjusting to prison, or in transition to release.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive counselling services to individuals in custody
  • Develop and implement tailored support and interventions to promote resilience and well-being
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the overall well-being of inmates
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in a counselling role
  • Therapeutic assessment and intervention skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse client groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse populations
