Job Description

As a Statutory Planner at Mt Alexander Shire Council, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse planning applications of varying complexity. You will be part of a collaborative team that values teamwork, consistency in decision-making, and high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance and advice to staff across the council who contribute to the development approval process.
  • Supervise and mentor planning staff to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Project manage and act as the council's delegate for major planning applications.
  • Prepare planning assessment documentation and reports.
  • Represent the council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
  • Develop creative solutions to resolve complex issues through negotiation and mediation.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement within the Statutory Planning Team and across the council.
Requirements
  • Recognised qualification in land use planning.
  • Extensive experience in statutory planning within local government and thorough knowledge of related legislation.
  • Leadership skills and commitment to mentoring and developing staff.
  • Strong communication and persuasion skills with the ability to gain cooperation from members of the public and other employees.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks with minimal supervision and evidence of a strong commitment to quality and customer service.
