About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk Management Specialist to join our team at the Commonwealth Bank. As a Risk Management Specialist, you will play a critical role in developing and deploying risk frameworks to enable the bank to take conscious exposures to credit, market, operational, compliance, and insurance risks within a Board-approved appetite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Credit Risk Assessment: You will be responsible for assessing and managing credit risk for regional and agribusiness clients, exercising sound commercial judgment while operating within the parameters of your personal delegation and the stated risk appetite.
  • Policy Development: You will contribute to the development of policies and frameworks to ensure the bank has appropriate strategies in place to assess, manage, and report on credit, market, operational, compliance, and insurance risks.
  • Collaboration and Communication: You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including business unit facing teams, to implement risk management frameworks and provide specialist risk services and advice to the Business Banking team.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: You will be responsible for monitoring portfolios and ensuring action is taken expeditiously where credit migration is evident.
  • Team Culture: You will contribute to a strong performance culture within Risk Management and with Business peers, striving for ongoing improvement of the Risk Management culture by actively looking to simplify policies and systems.
Requirements
  • Experience: You will have experience in a credit risk position, including exercising a personal delegation in a major financial institution.
  • Industry Knowledge: You will have high-level diversified industry knowledge and experience in agribusiness and commercial risk management.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: You will have nurtured and maintained key internal stakeholder relationships, and client relationship management experience.
  • Teamwork: You will have experience in contributing to high-performing teams and ability to contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Communication Skills: You will have sound influencing and negotiating skills, with the ability to think outside the box and adapt quickly to new situations.
  • Credit Risk Decisions: You will be able to provide sound, consistent credit risk decisions, with ongoing awareness of ESG issues and the impact on credit risk.
  • Industry Awareness: You will have ongoing awareness of relevant industry issues, which might impact on external and internal credit environments affecting credit quality and recommend appropriate changes to systems and/or policies.
  • Education: You will have a graduate or postgraduate degree in business or finance, or be a graduate of the Risk Business School.
  • Professional Qualifications: You will have relevant professional qualifications, such as Finsia, PRMIA, or GARP, or be studying towards completion.
