About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Music Program Leader to join our team at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS). As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Music program, providing educational leadership and modeling best practice teaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Music program, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Provide educational leadership and model best practice teaching, setting and aspiring to achieve standards of excellence in student outcomes and teacher practice.
  • Lead a diverse and quality-focussed Music performance program, including the coordination of instrumental teaching and ensemble tutoring.
  • Support team members in the Performance & Development Plan (PDP) process and assist them to align PDP goals with the school's Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and School Strategic Plan (SSP).
  • Member of the School Improvement Team (SIT), contributing to the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives.
  • Oversee the Masterclasses program, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Liaise with the Head of Student Services, Assistant Head of Student Services, and Head of Wellbeing, in matters related to student wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to develop innovative transdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Maintain knowledge of national and international developments in the design and delivery of Music curriculum.
  • Oversee the annual Music Awards, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Oversee the audition process and Music entry to the school, as outlined in the Enrolment Policy.
  • Artistic overview of the extensive VCASS Concert Program, including the annual Melbourne Recital Centre Concert, the May Ensembles Concert, and other key performances.
  • Overview of the Extensive Large Ensemble Program, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Overview of the Outreach Program, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Overview of Performance Classes and student Solo Performance Concerts, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Overview of student Chamber Performance concerts, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Performances Concert management, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Artistic direction of all performances, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Adherence to audition protocol, ensuring fair and equitable processes.
  • Oversee the selection of repertoire, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Responsibility for the appropriate allocation of parts, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Ensure that provision is made for instrument-specific requirements, such as bowings and doubling.
  • Oversight of instrumentation and the hiring of guest musicians, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Budget & Resource Management, overseeing the allocation, use, and care of specialist facilities, equipment, and resources.
  • Oversee and manage the Music budget, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Principal, oversee rehearsal and staffing plans, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Prepare the Music Faculty Budget, ensuring it aligns with the school's vision and strategic plan.
  • Maintaining the equipment and facilities of VCASS Music, ensuring they align with the school's vision and strategic plan.
Requirements
  • Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
