Plant Mechanic Role Overview

The role of a plant mechanic involves carrying out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on various types of heavy machinery. This includes diagnosing faults in equipment, performing scheduled maintenance tasks, and ensuring all safety protocols are adhered to.

  • This position is available in Kalgoorlie, WA, and requires the individual to be based in the area or willing to relocate with their own housing.
  • The successful candidate will work an 8-day roster with 6 days off, including a 30-minute meal break each day.
About the Job

The primary responsibility of a plant mechanic is to perform daily inspections and routine maintenance tasks on mobile mining earthmoving and ancillary plant equipment. This includes maintaining accurate records of machine hours and lubricant usage, as well as supporting tradespersons during maintenance processes.

  1. Perform regular checks on equipment to identify potential issues before they become major problems.
  2. Maintain accurate records of machine maintenance, lubricant usage, and other relevant data.
  3. Assist tradespersons with maintenance tasks where required, ensuring all safety procedures are followed.
  4. Identify and report any faults or defects in equipment, completing service reports using CAT Inspect software.
  5. Operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a range of skills and qualifications, including:

  • Australian Drivers Licence - Light Rigid OR Medium Rigid.
  • A recognised Heavy Mobile Plant Technology trade certificate with post-trade experience.
  • A High Risk Work Licence covering Forklift (FL), Dogging (DG), Rigging (RG), Working at Heights (WAH), and Confined Spaces (CSE).
  • Strong computer literacy and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in maintenance servicing of heavy equipment (mobile plant/ancillary).
  • Excellent customer service and safety focus.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team.
