Job Title: Principal Legal Counsel

Job Summary:

The Principal Legal Counsel will provide expert legal advice to VenuesWest, supporting the organization's commercial and operational activities. This role will be responsible for handling a wide range of commercial and contract matters, including drafting and negotiating high-value agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely expert legal advice on public-sector law matters.
  • Handle a wide range of commercial and contract matters, including drafting and negotiating high-value agreements.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to VenuesWest and related statutory authorities.
  • Significantly influence VenuesWest's strategy and risk management through expert legal counsel and effective contract management.

Selection Criteria:

  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in law, or undergraduate degree and postgraduate (JD or equivalent) degree in law from a University recognized for admission as a practitioner in Western Australia.
    • Admission as a practitioner, however described, of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
  • Legal Skills:
    • Demonstrates a competitive level of capacity and skill in relation to the standard of the solicitors representing the opposing interest in litigation, advisory matters, or commercial transactions.
    • Developed specialist skills within one or more of the fields of advisory work, commercial law, and state land law.
    • Knowledge of native title, Aboriginal heritage, and environmental laws.
  • Personal Characteristics:
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively translate ideas, concepts, and information into written and oral form.
    • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and initiative in developing solutions to complex and sensitive issues in a legal context.
  • Relevant Knowledge and Experience:
    • Substantial understanding and experience of administrative and public law.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship, or Australian permanent residency status.
