About the Role
Mater Hospital Mackay has permanent part-time and casual positions available for Central Sterilising Services Department (CSSD) Assistants.
The CSSD Assistant will provide preparation and sterilisation services in accordance with industry and hospital guidelines.
The role involves assisting the perioperative clinical team in delivering clinical care under the direction of Registered and Enrolled Nurses.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply cleaning methods and disinfecting agents to surgical instrumentation
- Process equipment for external sterilisation, if necessary
- Maintain knowledge of surgical instruments and packaging techniques
- Conduct sterilisation procedures following accepted methods and principles
- Process endoscopic equipment for multi-use purposes
- Store sterilised items to maintain sterility and efficiency
- Perform functions within the scope of practice, following clinical principles and regulations
Requirements
- A demonstrated understanding of infection control principles
- Basic computer skills
- Practical interpersonal and communication skills
- Certificate III in Sterilisation Services or ability to provide evidence of working towards attainment within six months
Desirable
- Experience in Sterilisation Services in a healthcare environment
- Previous CSSD role experience, with the ability to work autonomously and accountably
