Opportunity Overview

We seek a senior ecologist with broad experience in fieldwork, assessments, legislative knowledge, and strong reporting and project management skills. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a Senior Ecologist, with proficient ecological survey, reporting, and assessment capabilities. A passion for fieldwork and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Enhance Umwelt's reputation for ecological projects throughout Victoria and expand our service capacity in this area.
  • Project manage medium and large-scale development and/or biodiversity offsetting projects.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including clients, government agencies, and fellow team members.

  • Collect and interpret ecological and spatial data.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, botany, zoology (or similar)
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Consulting and/or client/regulator side ecology experience
  • Experience with Victorian biodiversity survey and assessment requirements
  • DEECA Vegetation Quality Assessment (VQA) Habitat Hectares training and competency check is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in project managing medium and large-scale development and/or biodiversity offsetting projects
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including clients, government agencies and fellow team members
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection and interpretation of ecological and spatial data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including preparing and reviewing reports, and ensuring final quality delivery
  • Highly motivated with a strong team commitment
  • Be willing to work flexible hours and travel for work
