Cairns, Queensland, Australia APS Full time
About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a psychologist to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment supporting Defence capabilities. As a civilian (non-uniformed) role within the Australian Public Service (APS) workforce, you will be part of the Royal Australian Navy's team in Cairns, a vital location for Navy's capability to protect national security.

The role involves providing mental health training packages, resilience training, and optimizing performance and enhancing capability of members during operations. You will work closely with Command and other services to provide advice, support, operational mental health screening, critical incident response, and organizational intervention.

About Our Team

The Navy Psychology Cairns team provides the full scope of Navy Psychology Services to Fleet Units and the Garrison Shore Establishments at HMAS Cairns in beautiful tropical North Queensland. We are a highly professional, close-knit team who work together to support each other and the goals of our Section.

We value professional development, strong relationships, high performance, work flexibility, and support. Our team is well integrated within the HMAS Cairns community and supported by the wider Navy Psychology team.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants variety in their professional career, has the ability to exercise a considerable degree of independence, and has the ability to perform a leadership role. You will enjoy engaging with command and other stakeholders to provide advice and recommendations based on your subject matter expertise.

You will be drawn to working in the operational, occupational, and clinical space, and able to adapt to a changing environment to match operational tempo. Relocation assistance is available, and there will be regular opportunities to work from home and enjoy flexible work arrangements.

What We Offer

We offer a range of benefits, including free access to the gym facilities on base and free on-site parking. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and contribute to the Navy's capability to protect national security.

We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and promotes work-life balance.
