The Reject Shop is a leading Australian discount variety retailer operating over 380 stores nationally, delivering great value and variety to our customers.

We're seeking a skilled Buyer to join our Merchandise team, responsible for our consumables department.

This hybrid role involves working in the office Monday to Wednesday, with responsibilities including:

  • Developing a category strategy to ensure great quality, value, and experience for our customers
  • Driving simple, consistent, and efficient processes
  • Delivering a profitable category while driving and developing key supplier relationships
  • Executing the customer-centric category strategy
  • Building a customer-centric category vision through a strategic approach
  • Leading category transformation
  • Driving sales performance in line with budget forecasts and last year's performance
  • Removing duplication and range fringe to deliver the simplest customer proposition
  • Delivering KPIs of sales and profit to budget
  • Bringing innovative new concepts to the category
  • Developing supplier negotiations and leading negotiations
  • Ensuring all products are purchased in line with Australian quality standards
  • Achieving markdowns, stock turns, and fast turning inventory

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in retail buying, preferably within FMCG
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to build effective relationships with suppliers
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Results-driven and proactive, with a passion for delivering value to customers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications
