Research Physiologist Opportunity

The University of Tasmania seeks a skilled Research Physiologist to contribute to the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership (AAPP). As a member of Theme 3, The Future of Antarctic Sea Ice, Krill and Ecosystems, you will play a vital role in studying climate change impacts on Antarctic krill physiology.

Your responsibilities will include conducting innovative biological research through field observations and aquaria experiments. You will analyze data to write research papers for peer-reviewed journals and scientific reports, providing valuable insights into the effects of environmental change on the krill ecosystem.

Your Expertise
  • We seek a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, such as marine biology or another marine science discipline.
  • A strong research background in laboratory and ship-based marine biology, demonstrated by quality publications, conference presentations, and competitive funding success.
  • Ability to effectively culture and maintain marine invertebrates.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills for data interpretation.
  • Effective communication skills for authoring scientific publications and presenting results at national and international forums.

About This Role

This role involves working independently and as part of a small team to achieve project goals. You will have the opportunity to develop and apply novel analyses to determine the mechanisms underpinning the effects of environmental change on the krill ecosystem.

This position requires a strong understanding of marine biology, ecology, and biogeochemical cycles, as well as excellent research and analytical skills.

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a dynamic team environment, communicating complex research findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
