Early Childhood Education Reform

The Department of Education's Early Childhood Education group plays a key role in policy development and service design to ensure child and family-centered outcomes-focused integrated systems.

We oversee and work with partners to support the funded kindergarten sector, regulate early childhood education and care services, and implement relevant legislative reforms to create a comprehensive, integrated, and equitable system.

We have lead responsibility for the ECE components of the Early Childhood Reform Plan and Best Start, Best Life reforms, including:

  • Transition to Pre-Prep (universal 30-hour per week play-based learning)
  • Expansion of the three-year-old kindergarten program
  • Introduction of government-owned and operated early learning and childcare centers
  • Free Kinder
About the Role

This role will include providing strategic direction, leadership, and operational responsibility for delivering the Three-Year-Old Kindergarten reform and universal early learning for 4-year-olds, working in partnership with other parts of DE and the early childhood education and care sector.

You will adopt an agile portfolio management approach across the project lifecycle and provide high-level authoritative policy advice, intellectual rigor, and service support to Ministers, the Secretary, and Deputy Secretary, ECE.
