About the Role

Our organisation seeks to recruit highly skilled and compassionate individuals for the position of Youth Support Worker.

As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young people residing in out-of-home care homes.

These young people have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect and may be living with mental health, physical, or psychosocial disabilities.

We require resilient and dedicated team members who can provide individualised support and care to empower young people to build skills and strengths within a therapeutic model of care.

The overall responsibilities of a Youth Support Worker include:

  • Providing direct person-centred support and care to young people in OOHC homes, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Crisis intervention and ongoing support.
  • Maintaining a safe and welcoming home environment.
  • Empowering young people to develop skills supporting them to live a good life within their local community.
A Typical Day as a Youth Support Worker

A typical day could involve:

  • Supporting young people to develop independent living skills.
  • Supporting young people to achieve their goals.
  • Supporting young people to engage in their local communities.
  • Daily care and support, including assisting with household duties.
  • Transporting young people to and from appointments.
  • Supporting connection to family and culture.
Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Developing and implementing individualised plans to support young people's growth and development.
  • Providing crisis intervention and ongoing support to young people.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting to relevant authorities as required.
  • Working collaboratively with other professionals and stakeholders to ensure young people receive comprehensive support.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate a commitment to the safety and well-being of children and young people.

You should have an understanding of strength-based trauma-informed practice or be willing to learn.

Prior qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare, or related areas are highly regarded.

Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma is also desirable.

Flexibility and adaptability are essential in this role, as you will be required to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleepovers.
