About the Department

As a government agency responsible for leading Australia's response to climate change and sustainable energy use, we aim to protect our environment, heritage, and water.

The Role

The Environment Protection Division is responsible for various regulatory and non-regulatory programs that protect the environment from harmful effects throughout the product life cycle. From collaborating with industry at the design stage to phase out chemicals of concern or design for recyclability, to end-of-life recycling; our focus is on finding ways to better manage Australia's waste, protect air quality, and prevent ozone layer depletion, and govern the use of industrial chemicals.

Key Responsibilities

  • We are seeking a highly skilled professional to undertake research and analysis to inform, develop, and support evidence-based policy and legislation.
  • You will be required to understand and apply legislation, regulation, and policy frameworks.
  • Analyze and prepare domestic policy implementation of the e-waste amendments.
  • Maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders on policy and operational matters relating to e-waste, including coordinating regular stakeholder meetings.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • A strong influencing ability to build and maintain a wide range of stakeholder relationships.
  • The capacity to work effectively across the department and with State and Territory colleagues.
  • Experience with RIS and international treaty making processes is also desirable.

About the Opportunity

The successful candidate will be offered an APS6 hourly rate contract, notionally through to January 2025. Locations across Australia are considered.

Only Australian citizens holding a baseline clearance or willingness to obtain one will be considered for this vacancy.
