Job Summary:

Southpaws is seeking a dedicated and experienced In-Patient Care Nurse to join our surgery department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional preoperative and postoperative care to our hospitalised surgery patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Attend morning handover and review patient charts during rounds.
• Assist with tasks for surgery inpatients, including radiographs, blood work, and sedation.
• Communicate patient concerns or status changes to case owners.
• Prioritise care for current hospitalised patients, ensuring timely medication and treatment.
• Assist with new admissions, including labelling cages and starting IVs.
• Support diagnostics and minor procedures, such as x-rays and dressing changes.
• Maintain a clean and organised ward environment, including patient cages and supplies.
• Prepare patients for discharge, ensuring they are clean and all equipment is properly removed or placed.

Requirements:

• Certificate IV or equivalent qualification.
• 3-4 years' experience in a similar role.
• Professional and positive demeanour.
• Ability to work efficiently with initiative in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional organisational skills.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures.
• Proficiency in monitoring anaesthesia with a primary focus on in-patient care assistance in surgery when required.
• Ability to work a rotating roster including a weekend rotation and on call.
