Job Summary:
Southpaws is seeking a dedicated and experienced In-Patient Care Nurse to join our surgery department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional preoperative and postoperative care to our hospitalised surgery patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend morning handover and review patient charts during rounds.
- Assist with tasks for surgery inpatients, including radiographs, blood work, and sedation.
- Communicate patient concerns or status changes to case owners.
- Prioritise care for current hospitalised patients, ensuring timely medication and treatment.
- Assist with new admissions, including labelling cages and starting IVs.
- Support diagnostics and minor procedures, such as x-rays and dressing changes.
- Maintain a clean and organised ward environment, including patient cages and supplies.
- Prepare patients for discharge, ensuring they are clean and all equipment is properly removed or placed.
Requirements:
- Certificate IV or equivalent qualification.
- 3-4 years' experience in a similar role.
- Professional and positive demeanour.
- Ability to work efficiently with initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organisational skills.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures.
- Proficiency in monitoring anaesthesia with a primary focus on in-patient care assistance in surgery when required.
- Ability to work a rotating roster including a weekend rotation and on call.
