Job Description

The Chief Information Security Officer plays a pivotal role in shaping the national cloud, AI, and Defence security strategy.

This senior leadership position reports directly to the CEO and engages with the board, driving the organisation's growth and success.

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive security strategy that encompasses cloud, AI, and Defence security.
  • Influence business decisions and shape the company's security posture as a trusted advisor to the CEO and the board.
  • Establish and lead a dedicated security team, developing frameworks and strategies that drive mission-critical outcomes.

The organisation is a sovereign Australian technology provider delivering next-generation cloud and AI infrastructure. With a growing network of high-performance, sovereign AI facilities, they support enterprise, critical infrastructure, Defence, and the National Intelligence Community (NIC).

The CISO will define and execute enterprise security strategy, drive compliance and accreditation (ISM, PSPF, DISP, IRAP, ISO), and serve as the security authority for Defence and the NIC community.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development of frameworks including ISM, PSPF, ASD Essential Eight, DISP, and IRAP.

Oversee secure architecture across AI/ML environments, air-gapped Defence networks, and sovereign cloud.

Build a dedicated security function, mentor cleared engineers, and represent the company with Defence/NIC clients.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A TSPV clearance with 15+ years IT/cybersecurity experience, including senior leadership roles.
  • A fluent understanding of ISM, PSPF, DISP, ASD Essential Eight, ISO 27001, and related standards.
  • A background in sovereign, cloud, or AI/HPC environments is desirable.
  • Well-developed leadership skills, with experience in building teams.


About the Role

The successful candidate will be based in Sydney or Canberra, with regular travel to Canberra.

A flexible hybrid work arrangement with occasional interstate/overseas requirements will be considered for the right person.
