Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia CareSouth Full time

About the Role

CareSouth is a local, community-based organisation with a dynamic and bold vision to make a difference every day. Our mission is to inspire each other and the communities in which we operate.

We are seeking casual Support Workers to provide individualised 24/7 support for young people living in our Goulburn program. Our young people come from a background of trauma, and we are looking for people who will work with their strengths to see them thrive.

The overall responsibilities of the Support Worker are to promote a consistent and considered person-centred approach to the direct care of young people who reside in residential care, ensuring individual needs are met. Support Workers provide emotional support and crisis intervention, maintain a safe and welcoming home environment, and encourage young people to develop their social and living skills.

A typical day in the life of a Support Worker could include:

  • Building and developing independent living skills
  • Assisting with household duties
  • Encouraging achievement of goals
  • Transporting young people to and from appointments
  • Daily care and support
  • Assisting with engagement in education and extracurricular activities, such as sport or art
  • Supporting connection to family and culture
  • Utilising support from internal and external specialist services, such as Speech Therapists and Behaviour Support Practitioners

We are looking for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people, and people with a disability.
  • Qualifications in Residential Care, a Certificate IV in Community Services, Welfare, or other related areas.
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver services based on an understanding of the impact of trauma on behaviour and development of children and adults.
  • Understanding of or experience in implementing therapeutic interventions and behaviour management strategies.
  • A positive attitude to engaging with children and young people in a nurturing environment under a therapeutic model.
  • Demonstrated experience in being able to manage duties associated with home management.
  • The ability to work independently and under limited supervision.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the team by supporting colleagues through clear and effective communication, sharing of appropriate and relevant information, and working cooperatively with others.
  • Willingness to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings, and sleepovers.
