Rural Mental Health Specialist

Job Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled professional to provide mental health support to rural communities affected by prolonged drought.
About the Role
- Deliver trauma-informed counselling interventions to individuals and families experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges related to drought
- Provide crisis support to individuals in acute distress, including those at risk of self-harm or suicide, and facilitate referrals to emergency services when necessary
- Engage with and maintain trust-based relationships with farmers, local leaders, and community groups, and collaborate with local stakeholders to understand community needs and priorities
- Facilitate group sessions focused on stress management, resilience, and peer support tailored to rural community needs
- Collaborate with local service providers to coordinate holistic care and strengthen referral pathways
Requirements
Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or other health-related field
Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, mental health recovery, and care coordination
Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders
