Job Overview

The role of General Manager, Advice requires strong leadership and management capabilities.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the GM will partner with other teams to achieve APRA's purpose and build its reputation as a professional, responsive and well-integrated regulator.

The team provides technical advice and support on prudential standards, approval of capital instruments, actuarial and accounting matters, complex entity issues and targeted technical reviews and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

- People Management: Lead a team of professionals to deliver high-quality outcomes and foster an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust.

- Strategic Direction: Set the strategic direction and business plan of the A&A team, consistent with the Policy & Advice Plan and the APRA Corporate Plan.

- Process Improvement: Lead dedicated teams of experts to partner with others across the organisation to find solutions to challenging supervision and policy problems.

- Risk Management: Lead A&A to deliver on its focus areas of improving partnerships, sharpening risk-based approach to advice, improving communications, and enhancing systems.

- Operational Efficiency: Develop and implement systems and procedures that support effective and efficient delivery of the function of the A&A team.

- External Representation: Develop close relationships and networks with peer agencies, external advisors, and industry forums, and represent APRA in such environments in a manner that enhances APRA's reputation.

Requirements:

- Strong leadership and management capabilities, including ability to improve efficiency, drive change, organise and motivate others.

- Experience in financial services sector in senior leadership capacity, with sound understanding of principles of prudential regulation and financial sector risks.

- Excellent organisational, prioritisation, analytical and communication skills, relationship building, negotiation and influencing capability at senior level.

- Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop appropriate solutions, strong personal integrity and prudent business practice.

- Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships with peers, team members and external stakeholders in a professional team environment.

- Professional qualifications in relevant field or equivalent experience, particularly actuarial and/or financial regulation expertise.
