About this opportunity
The University of Queensland is seeking a Casual Academic to deliver tutorials and associated preparation, student consultation, and marking in first year, second year, third year, and postgraduate economics courses.
Casual Academics in the School of Economics are required to deliver or present a tutorial (or equivalent delivery through other than face-to-face teaching mode) of a specified duration and relatedly provide non-contact duties in the nature of preparation, directly-associated and contemporaneous marking, and student consultation.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and delivering theoretical and/or practical tutorials which are engaging, context-relevant, and where possible, participative.
- Tutoring students in face-to-face delivery mode.
- Providing support to students, including consultation, and assessment feedback.
- Undertaking marking of assessment tasks, as directed by course coordinators, with hours for marking to be confirmed by School Administration staff prior to commencing marking.
- Maintaining, and where possible improving, the quality of tutorials, as measured through evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.
- Providing tutorial support for other positions during planned or unexpected absences.
- Understanding and applying University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.
- Maintaining class participation and attendance lists as required.
- Maintaining a high level of performance on evaluations by students.
- Attending meetings, induction sessions, or required training sessions.
Compliance
All Casual academics are required to comply with legislation and University policy relevant to the duties undertaken, including but not limited to:
- The relevant legislation and University policy.
- Requirements of the Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related developed by the University or Institute/School.
- The adoption of sustainable practices in all work activities and compliance with associated legislation and related University policy.
- Requirements of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000, the National Code 2007, and associated legislation, and related developed by the University.

Located on the St Lucia campus as part of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, the School is home to more than 2753 domestic and international students, 17 professional staff, and 66 active teaching and research staff.
About You
Candidates must have completed at least 10 units (5 courses) of UQ ECON-coded courses by July 2024 and achieved a GPA of 6.0 or better in economics courses.
UQ PhD candidates are encouraged to apply and do not need to have studied previously at UQ to be eligible.

What we can offer
This is a Casual position. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work.
The casual hourly rate is $53.21 per hour, plus super.
