Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Policy Officer/Assistant Director in the Closing the Gap Branch. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and influencing change across Government to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are heard, recognised and empowered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive a strategic approach for the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and lead new policy development, including Cabinet and Budget processes, Secretaries Board, Policy Partnerships and Sector Strengthening Plans.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships under the Partnership Agreement and provide high-level secretariat functions for a number of committees relating to the National Agreement.
  • Develop and deliver the Commonwealth's Closing the Gap Implementation Plan and Annual Reports under the National Agreement.
  • Build and drive NIAA's influencing role across Government, particularly to embed the Priority Reforms and coordination of First Nations policy development across the Commonwealth.
Requirements
  • Understanding of the issues affecting First Nations peoples and an ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner alongside, and for the benefit of, First Nations peoples.
  • Flexibility, resilience and a proven capacity to use initiative and sound judgement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Capability to anticipate and respond to client and stakeholder needs and expectations.
