In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring safe navigation and overseeing vital safety equipment. You'll work closely with the Master and Chief Mate to ensure the smooth operation of the ship, while also contributing to the development of our Safety Management System (SMS).
This is an opportunity to make a positive impact by:
- Managing navigation watches and monitoring the vessel's passage plan
- Testing and maintaining life-saving and firefighting equipment
- Overseeing cargo operations and coordinating with shore teams
- Supporting training and induction for new crew members
- Ensuring compliance with Serco's SMS
- Participating in safety drills and emergency response activities
To be successful in this role, you'll need to have:
- A current Passport
- An AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness
- An AMSA-issued Watchkeeper Deck (Unrestricted) Certificate
- A Dynamic Positioning Operator Unlimited Offshore (DPO) Certificate
- A GMDSS General Operator's Certificate (GOC)
- Security Awareness Training
- Advanced Firefighting (AFF) and proficiency in survival craft
- Experience in polar, scientific, or resupply vessel operations
- The ability to use ship operating IT systems and draft documents
- The ability to pass a Polar Medical examination
