About the Role

We are seeking a driven and enthusiastic forensic accountant with experience in business valuations (or a strong interest in this area) to join our Melbourne Forensic Consulting team as a Senior Associate or Manager.

The team comprises a diverse group of skilled professionals from various backgrounds, bringing different perspectives and expertise while collaborating under a principle of inclusion and belonging. They provide customized advice to clients on a range of issues, including business valuations, commercial loss and damage claims, insurance events, and investigations.

Some recent projects this team has undertaken include:

  • Valuation of intellectual property for a hospitality franchise involved in Supreme Court proceedings
  • Valuation of a significant Melbourne-based property developer for family law matters
  • Dispute resolution under a purchase and sale agreement for a retail chain
  • Assessment of economic loss in major insurance litigation cases
  • Fraud and asset tracing investigations in the retail sector

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze diverse financial data and pinpoint critical financial components relevant to disputes
  • Identify documents that will aid in resolving issues in contention
  • Engage with clients and referrers to gather information and communicate findings
  • Conduct detailed reviews and analyses of business financial performance
  • Research and analyze various business, industry, and economic data
  • Assist in drafting forensic accounting reports for use in corporate or regulatory/court settings

You will be encouraged to enhance your commercial insight and broader skills by participating in business development initiatives for the Forensics team, as well as cultivating your personal brand and network.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualifications and/or professional accreditations in relevant fields such as Business/Commerce, Accounting, or Finance, or other pertinent professional or international qualifications
  • Substantial experience in an accounting environment, preparing business valuation reports and commercial loss and damage reports for disputes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong report-writing and presentation abilities
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills, approaching situations with an open mind and keen attention to detail
  • Well-organized with developed time management skills, capable of meeting strict deadlines and adapting to rapidly changing circumstances
  • Strong IT proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel)
