Your Contributions

As a Lead Lending Attorney, you will play a crucial role in guiding the Westpac Group and its partners toward achieving optimal outcomes for our clientele through outstanding legal counsel and services. Your expertise will be instrumental in managing risks and demonstrating effective leadership.

In this capacity, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of the law to navigate complex issues independently, collaborating with senior stakeholders to meet business objectives. You will also enhance the leadership, knowledge management, and operational efficiency within the Legal Function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing expert advice on legal risks related to intricate regulatory challenges affecting Business Lending and Private Wealth.
  • Enhancing the strategic and operational effectiveness of the Legal department by proposing innovative ideas and initiatives, developing comprehensive perspectives, and fostering knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborating with internal business partners to address legal matters while nurturing and sustaining professional relationships.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and encouraging innovative and creative thinking.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years of post-admission experience, holding an unrestricted Australian practicing certificate.
  • A proven track record of excellence in the legal field.
  • In-depth experience in financial services, gained in either a large corporate or private practice setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal and regulatory obligations pertaining to Business Lending and Private Wealth.
  • Strong understanding of current trends and dynamics within the financial services sector.
  • A solutions-oriented mindset with exceptional stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
  • Robust commercial insight.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
