About the Role

Gilbane Building Company seeks a highly skilled VDC Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for leading constructability and coordination tasks on a project by utilizing technology and processes.

Responsibilities
  • Leverage technology and processes to complete VDC Coordination and Reality Capture tasks independently.
  • Support the implementation of Baseline and Enterprise VDC standards across various projects.
  • Apply Building Information Modeling (BIM) Standards and Specifications (BS&S) and BIM Execution Plan (BEP) on projects.
  • Coordinate and relay project issues, staffing challenges, and equipment concerns to the VDC Manager as needed.
  • Assist in drafting project coordination schedules and reviewing them with the VDC Manager.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced team members in other regions/Business Units (BUs).
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external project teams, facilitating meetings to resolve project issues, review schedules, or other project documentation.
  • Utilize 3D design software to identify, communicate, and resolve project challenges.
  • Collaborate with Reality Capture technology, such as laser scanning and drones, to support project deliverables.
  • Consolidate all building discipline models into the coordination model.
  • Review the coordination model for constructability issues using software's clash detection capabilities.
  • Assign responsible parties for issue resolution and verify with meeting minutes, submittals, RFIs, and updated models.
Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Information Modeling (BIM), or related field.
  • At least 3 years of VDC Coordination experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills & Qualities:

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time-management and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in BIM and design software, with knowledge of complex design concepts and integrated building components and systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, coaching and mentoring VDC engineers.
  • Ability to create 3D coordination models to facilitate the coordination process.
  • Proficient in reality capture hardware, software, and processes.
  • Ability to read construction schedules and tie activities to VDC deliverables.
  • Ability to prioritize project tasks to achieve project VDC deliverables deadlines.
