About the Role

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is seeking a highly skilled Web Developer to join our Accelerator Controls team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining web-based tools to support the control and monitoring of our particle accelerators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop web-based tools to guide engineers in naming and controlling particle accelerator components
  • Expand an existing prototype system to automatically create control screens from a list of components
  • Implement advanced features to generate sophisticated screens and monitor whole areas of the accelerators
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • A software development or computing discipline
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience programming in an object-oriented language such as JavaScript
  • Ability to work with other developers in a team
  • Ability to adapt based on feedback from other developers and users
Desirable Skills
  • Evidence of interest in web technologies and development frameworks, e.g. React
  • Experience with version control, e.g. git, and software development best practice
