About the Role

The Key Venues section manages all aquatic and leisure facilities, providing top-notch activities and programs. We promote Blacktown City as a leader in sports, recreation, and leisure, ensuring every visitor enjoys a safe and memorable experience. The Aqua Learn to Swim program operates across five aquatic venues, including Blacktown Aquatic Centre and Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope, among others.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to fill the role of Learn to Swim Instructors on a casual basis. This position involves delivering professional and safe swimming lessons to participants enrolled in the Aqua Learn to Swim program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the learn-to-swim program in accordance with established frameworks and standards, ensuring readiness to instruct at least 10 minutes before class commencement.
  • Ensure classes start and finish punctually, and be available post-class to consult with students and/or parents regarding instruction techniques.
  • Manage and report class attendance accurately.
  • Assess swimming lesson participants and complete necessary administrative tasks related to these assessments.
  • Provide relevant and accurate information to center users regarding the Learn to Swim Program and associated services.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Certification as a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety from AUSTSWIM, Swim Australia, Royal Life Saving, or a similar organization.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service abilities.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Desirable:

  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Pool Lifeguard Award or equivalent.
  • Oxygen Equipment Certificate.
  • Experience in coaching or teaching.
  • Completion of teacher extension courses covering various age groups and skill levels.
  • Current class C driver's license.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary and employment conditions are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement, with entry-level compensation starting at a competitive hourly rate plus a 25% casual loading. Penalty rates apply for weekend shifts, and employees enjoy benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), an 11% employer contribution to superannuation, fitness passport options, gym membership discounts, and access to social clubs.

This position is classified as child-related work, requiring a Working with Children Check (WWCC) number as part of the application process.
