At Clayton Utz, our largest top-tier commercial litigation practice in Australia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Lawyer/Senior Associate to join our Commercial Litigation and Restructuring & Insolvency (R&I) practice in Brisbane.

The Role

Working closely with Scott Sharry and Brett Cook, this role is a collaborative joint resource between our Commercial Litigation and R&I practice groups. You will join a dynamic team who act for a variety of blue chip clients, including major financial services entities, mining and energy companies, State and Federal Government, ASX listed companies, large private organisations, and insolvency practitioners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-profile litigious matters involving complex commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, and contentious insolvency.
  • Work across a range of major, complex commercial disputes, preparing complex advice, drafting and settling pleadings, and instructing Counsel in interlocutory and final hearings.
  • Play a pivotal part in every aspect of contentious matters, including court proceedings.
  • Engage with our litigation Partners and be exposed to our corporate teams and prominent clients.
  • Be exposed to disputes and issues that might arise in restructures and workouts, voluntary administrations, liquidations, and receiverships.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you will have:

  • At least 5 years PQE within a commercial litigation or contentious restructuring and insolvency practice.
  • Familiarity with Supreme/Federal Court litigation.
  • Strong drafting experience, including court documents, affidavits, briefs, and the preparation of evidence.
  • Experience in providing advice in relation to insolvency practice and procedure.
  • Exceptional client service skills, with a focus on delivering outstanding results.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to build strong client relationships and maintain a positive team environment.
  • A team player with strong time and project management skills.
