Rail Equipment Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Rail Equipment Engineer (Mobile Plant) to join our National Plant Team in Newcastle, NSW. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our mobile plant, road rail vehicles, and rolling stock assets.
Key Responsibilities- Investigate and resolve operational performance and maintenance reliability challenges with new and existing equipment to promote safety, cost efficiency, and productivity.
- Coordinate and conduct operational and network interface performance tests and commissioning activities.
- Ensure compliance of new and existing mobile plant, road rail vehicles, and the rolling stock (work train) fleet with WH&S, regulatory, and technical performance standards.
- Support the roll-out of a multi-million dollar, 10-year strategic plant and equipment replacement plan.
- Develop, review, and refine plant processes, standards, guidelines, and forms to enhance safety and maintenance performance.
- Analyse and review engineering reports, calculations, and drawings for mechanical designs and modifications.
- Collect, monitor, and analyse data related to fleet operational and maintenance performance to drive improvement opportunities.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for the purchase of innovative machinery to improve plant mechanization, productivity, safety, and reduce operating costs.
- Lead, coach, and mentor plant maintenance staff to ensure team goals are met.
To succeed in this position, you will need to demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A well-developed and structured approach to problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, assist, and promote the team, and drive effective outcomes in a fast-changing environment.
- A current Class C driver's licence.
