About the Role

We are seeking a talented Graduate Software Engineer to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council. As a Graduate Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing new software and web services that support our user and experiment programs.

You will be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from requirements collection to design, coding, testing, deployment, and support. You will work on a range of projects using Agile methodologies and have real responsibility and ownership in a supportive environment.

We are looking for graduates who are keen to learn and have potential. We provide a wide range of training opportunities in an encouraging team atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop new software and web services that support our user and experiment programs
  • Work on a range of projects using Agile methodologies
  • Be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle
  • Collaborate and solve problems with the rest of the team
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team supporting engineers and scientists
Requirements
  • Have, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant STEM subject
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK at the time of starting employment
  • Good understanding of object-oriented software development
  • Knowledge of how to write high-quality code
  • Passion for learning both technical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Good social skills, particularly in communicating complex and technical information
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
