Youth Mental Health Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Youth Mental Health Specialist to join our team in Cairns.
This is a full-time opportunity on a maximum term contract until June 30, 2025, with the potential for extension.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for providing vital support to young people and making a positive impact towards wellbeing as part of a passionate team at headspace Cairns.
You will play a vital role in assessing the needs of young people and determining the best service pathway for them, ensuring they receive seamless, coordinated, and youth-friendly support.
Main Responsibilities- Manage referrals and respond to enquiries
- Conduct mental health assessments and risk assessments, including follow-up appointments
- Provide intervention, therapy, and group work
- Provide appropriate advice and mentorship, including training and support to team members
- Monitor and maintain intake waitlists
- Participate in the provision of mental health education programs
- Prepare and maintain client records and case notes
- Maintain a caseload
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Current paid employee Blue Card (Social Workers Only)
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
- Minimum of 3 years experience delivering mental health assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and interventions, therapeutic interventions, and social recovery paradigms
- Demonstrated ability in risk assessment, including risk to self and others
- Working knowledge of the provision of mental health services to young people, and their families
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive written reports
