Contribute to Groundbreaking Space Governance Research

In this exciting opportunity, you will play a key role in leading-edge research on the governance of activities in outer space. As a Senior Space Governance Research Specialist, your duties will involve facilitating and conducting research associated with various projects, including the regulation of space activities in Australia and globally, the emergence of norms of behaviour about space activities, and military space activities generally.

About the Role:

The position involves working closely with our team to support the extension of the rules-based order to the space domain. You will help UNSW Australia continue and extend its role as a global exemplar in space governance, while promoting the commercial and public benefits of the domain.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • A university graduate in the humanities, with a focus on space activities, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
  • Knowledge of research protocols, design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, to respectful relationships within and outside a team, and to the health and safety of all those with whom you work.

What We Offer:

UNSW Australia offers a competitive salary, estimated at $85,000 - $105,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The role is part-time, with at least 250 hours spread unevenly across approximately 18 months. In addition to the main responsibilities, you will be required to work surges for intensive periods of preparation for workshops, and initial preparation of project deliverables.
