About the Role
">As a Special Education Support Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities and complex additional needs in a primary school setting. You will work collaboratively with families, community, and professional networks to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students.
">Key Responsibilities
">- ">
- Actively participate in planning, preparation, implementation, and assessment of individualised educational programs in special school, primary, and community settings.">
- Develop and maintain appropriate working relationships with students with disabilities and complex additional needs, families, and work colleagues while maintaining confidentiality and mandatory reporting guidelines.">
- Manage and complete administrative and clerical tasks that support student learning and reporting, including preparation of classroom and student resources, use of specific software programmes, contribution to Educational Adjustment Plan (EAP)/Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), and maintaining student tracking databases.">
- Administer and oversee first aid practices, provide medication, and respond to high medical needs to students in accordance with school and education departmental policies.">
- Prioritise and perform work tasks in a reliable and professional manner, adhering to school and Northern Territory Department of Education policies and procedures.">
Selection Criteria
">- ">
- Proven experience working with students who have identified learning, behaviour, and/or inclusion needs, deficits in adaptive functioning areas such as communication, self-care, social/interpersonal skills, and functional academic skills.">
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate using various means of communication and display appropriate interpersonal skills with students in a primary setting who have a diverse range of disabilities and needs.">
- Proven experience and ability to perform essential clerical and reporting tasks within timeframes.">
- Demonstrated professional experience in working collaboratively and communicating effectively with school personnel, professional teams, and departmental officers that support continued productive partnerships.">
- Understanding and knowledge in providing general and specific first aid as well as medical intervention to individuals with identified additional medical needs.">
