The client is committed to expanding and building resilience into the existing water network due to the growing population in Cairns.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provision of Specialist Engineering Advice

Provide expert engineering advice on the delivery of major capital projects, as directed by the Executive Manager.

Project Delivery Leadership

Lead teams for project delivery activities for capital works across the client's Major Projects portfolio.

Tender Analysis and Reporting

Undertake thorough and systematic analysis of tender submissions for capital works and prepare detailed reports for senior management and the client.

Team Leadership and Supervision

Assist the Executive Manager Major Projects in leadership and supervision of allocated teams and work programs.

Workload Management and Efficiency

Manage workload across the team to drive efficiency and Value for Money opportunities.

Expert Professional Advice

Provide expert professional advice to other client officers, stakeholders, and councillors on current and proposed projects.

Project Delivery and Contract Management

Responsible for overall delivery, project management, and contract management of elements of major capital works projects completed by both internal and external resources.

Project Reporting and Communication

Provide regular reports on project expenditure and scheduling, including details on progress claims, variations, and expenditure trends.

Consultation and Negotiation

Lead consultation and negotiation with internal and external authorities, including public utility authorities.

Technical Knowledge and Compliance

Apply a sound technical knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, Statutory Approval Legislation, and Contract Law.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Senior Project Engineer meets the following requirements:

  1. Qualifications

Bachelor of Engineering or other relevant Engineering qualification.

Experience

Extensive civil engineering, project, and contract management experience in a medium to large multi-disciplined organisation.

Industry Experience

Demonstrated extensive industry experience in water or water-related projects.

Team Management

Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve project and corporate objectives.

Standards and Legislation

Working knowledge and understanding of relevant Standards and Legislation.

Project Management Frameworks

Working knowledge and understanding of project management frameworks, such as PMBOK, PRINCE2, and other industry standards.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Professional Membership

Member of The Institution of Engineers Australia, or equivalent industry body.

Professional Registration

Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.
