Emergency Management Coordinator

As a Coordinator Emergency Management and Recovery, you will be responsible for leading a highly skilled team in developing and delivering strategies, plans, and policies that enhance resilience, relief, and recovery outcomes for residents of the shire.
You will drive the development, delivery, and implementation of specialist advice to the Manager Community Safety and Municipal Recovery Manager, Director, on key emergency management planning and related strategies, plans, and policies that support statutory obligations and Council's objectives.
Key tasks include:
- Supporting the delivery of Nillumbik's Municipal Emergency Management Plan, including actioning, embedding, and reporting on progress and outcomes.
- Developing and delivering emergency management initiatives and projects, and preparing briefing papers and reports for the Manager Community Safety and Municipal Recovery Manager that support strategic decision making and collaborative cross-organisational outcomes.
- Supporting the Emergency Management Unit to work cooperatively and productively, in partnership with the community, all stakeholders, the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee, its sub-committees, and any other committees, in mitigating the effects and threats of perceived and real emergencies to the community in accordance with relevant legislation and Council's Policy.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of best practice in strategic and operational elements of Emergency Management.
- Demonstrated experience in or involvement with local government or similar service environment and a demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and of the social, political, and legal framework in which local government operates.
- Demonstrated experience in managing the complex issues required to coordinate municipal emergency management and internal emergency management procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of the multi-agency nature of emergency and fire management and the strategic importance of collaborative decision making.
- Degree or Diploma in Government (Statutory Compliance) and/or a tertiary qualification in a relevant field and substantial relevant experience in the field of specialist expertise.
- A current Victorian Driver's Licence.
