Diagnostic Histopathology Specialist

We are currently recruiting for a Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Technician to join our team in the Histology Laboratory at the University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Campus. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and be part of the RVH Pathology team, providing in-house clinical diagnostic support.

The role involves performing a wide range of diagnostic tests primarily in histology and supporting other departments such as haematology, biochemistry, endocrinology, clinical pathology, parasitology, necropsy and microbiology. Responsibilities also include processing and managing samples using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), preparing reagents and laboratory solutions, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and participating in quality control and assurance programs.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to continuous improvement across laboratory operations. They will be open to cross-training in other laboratory departments and actively contribute to the teaching and support of final-year veterinary and veterinary technology students.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical support and training to students and staff.
  • Collaborating with other departments to achieve shared goals.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent work experience in veterinary laboratory sciences.
  • Advanced knowledge in histology techniques such as embedding, microtome use and staining.
  • Experience in performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures in a veterinary or clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
