This role is appointed by the Health Ombudsman to oversee proceedings against registered health practitioners in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
The Executive Director of Proceedings will exercise independent decision-making in respect of these matters, prioritizing public health and safety.
As a member of the Office's Executive Leadership Team, you will collaborate with other leaders to achieve strategic objectives.
Main Responsibilities:
- Perform duties as prescribed by the Health Ombudsman Act 2013.
- Lead and oversee the culture, strategy, and operations of the Director of Proceedings Division, providing high-level leadership to drive a positive workplace culture and support teams in achieving operational targets.
- Contribute positively to the Executive Leadership Team to deliver legislative, strategic, and operational objectives.
- Review matters referred to the Director and make independent decisions on whether to refer them to QCAT or take alternative action for public protection.
- Manage a team overseeing all aspects of disciplinary proceedings, including drafting pleadings, presenting evidence, and progressing to a final hearing and determination.
- Manage appeals or judicial review applications related to QCAT disciplinary proceedings allocated to legal staff or external providers.
- Provide instructions and direction to external legal service providers, monitoring and managing the legal brief budget.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and business excellence, encouraging high performance and innovation.
- Promote the Office's values and priorities through processes such as performance appraisals and orientation.
- Prepare expert advice and briefs for the Health Ombudsman, notices to the Minister, and Parliamentary Committee as required.
