Conservation Specialist

About the Role

The National Museum of Australia is seeking a skilled Conservation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for the care and preservation of our National Historical Collection and associated holdings.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the conservation of objects and textiles through condition assessments, pest and hazard management, and interventive conservation treatments.
• Develop and implement preventive conservation programs to ensure the long-term preservation of our collection.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the museum to deliver exhibitions and collections care activities.
• Contribute to the development of conservation skills and knowledge within the team through training and mentoring.

Requirements

• Proven experience in objects or textiles conservation, with a strong understanding of conservation principles and practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research and present complex data.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Good IT skills, with experience of collection management systems and information systems.
