At DNEG, we're seeking a highly experienced Lead Technical Supervisor to join our VFX Build Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a technical expert to lead and supervise the department's technical aspects, driving innovation and efficiency in our production workflows.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and supervision to the team, defining the technical strategy that enables the department to deliver high-quality work on time, on budget, and sustainably. You'll be responsible for maintaining current systems, developing new technology solutions, and ensuring the right tools and processes are in place to meet our goals.

A key aspect of this role is providing technical guidance, support, and feedback to department supervisors and artists. You'll work closely with Heads of Departments, CG Build Supervisors, Production Technology, Workflow Architects, and other departments across all sites to develop consistent cross-department workflows and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement technical strategies to drive efficiency and innovation in the VFX build department
  • Lead and supervise the team, providing technical guidance and support as needed
  • Maintain and improve current systems, identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing changes
  • Design and develop standardized department workflows, tools, and processes
  • Ensure the right tools, technology, and workflows are in place to deliver high-quality work efficiently
Requirements

We're looking for someone with:

  • Extensive high-end feature film VFX experience
  • A proven technical knowledge of all aspects of the VFX pipeline
  • Broad range of build-discipline knowledge with experience in modeling, texturing, and look development
  • Extensive experience using 3D software (ideally Maya, Houdini, Mari, ZBrush, Nuke & Substance Designer/Painter)
  • Extensive experience with rendering in Clarisse & Renderman
  • Experience managing tool development in a production-focused environment
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the natural world (geology, geography, and meteorology) and architecture (design and engineering)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including third-party suppliers
