About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Legal Practitioner to join our team at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service. As a key member of our Family Law team, you will provide expert casework assistance and information to clients and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level client services in Family Law proceedings, including casework relating to Child Protection and Domestic Violence applications.
  • Ensure exemplary case management standards and maintain accurate records.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law.
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Legal Officer and Director of Family Law to achieve team goals.
Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Alignment to the values and vision of ATSILS and an appreciation of the challenges faced by our clients.
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or eligibility for immediate acquisition of a current Practising Certificate.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to empathetically convey information to clients.
  • Experience in Family Law proceedings, including casework relating to Child Protection and Domestic Violence applications.
  • An in-depth working knowledge of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law.
Desirable Criteria

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office in a Windows networked environment.
  • Experience in Criminal Law, including the ability to assist on duty lawyer matters during periods of demand.
  • A current Queensland Driver Licence and ability to drive in all reasonable conditions.
  • A willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check to achieve a National Police Certificate.

Please note that a criminal history does not automatically preclude selection for interview. A preliminary check can be discussed with the HR Manager after a candidate has been shortlisted for interview.
