Job Description

As Head of Laboratory Operations, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of our laboratory services. You will work closely with senior leadership to identify inefficiencies, drive innovation, and implement plans that align with our organisation's vision and goals.

Key responsibilities include overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring all processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with quality and best practices. This includes managing laboratory resources, including personnel, equipment, and budgets, to ensure optimal performance.

You will also be responsible for ensuring there are agreed measures in place to track and drive operational outcomes, such as case turnaround time and cost per case metrics. Presenting clear, data-driven reports on departmental efficiency is also a key requirement.

A strong focus on collaboration and accountability is essential in this role. You'll be expected to mentor and support a large team of scientists, technical staff, and team leaders. You will help them grow into effective, people-focused leaders who foster a positive and high-performing team culture.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Developing and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Maintaining open communication channels with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Identifying and addressing potential risks to operational continuity.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need to have:

  • A proven track record in driving operational improvements and leading strategic growth initiatives.
  • Experience working in a Medical Laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Highly capable of leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels.
  • Skilled at conveying complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
