Ecologist Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to support the planning, construction, and operation phase of a major infrastructure project in regional NSW. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with environmental legislation, biodiversity management requirements, and sustainable land use practices.

Job Description:

The position is responsible for conducting field surveys to identify and map threatened species, ecological communities, and critical habitats. The Ecologist will also liaise with State Forestry authorities, local councils, traditional owner groups, and environmental regulators to coordinate access and approvals in forested areas.

The Ecologist will prepare verification reports consistent with Biodiversity Assessment Method, environmental reports, monitoring summaries, and compliance documentation for relevant stakeholders.

Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant work experience
  • Certification/accreditation as a BAM (Biodiversity Assessment Method) assessor
  • Hold a Scientific Licence under Part 2 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (including Animal Ethics Approval)
  • Proficiency in ecological fieldwork, biodiversity assessments, and GIS mapping tools
  • Knowledge of NSW environmental legislation and biodiversity offsetting frameworks
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, particularly in multi-stakeholder environments
  • Current driver's licence and ability to travel to remote sites
