The Military Provost Guard Service is a specialist unit that provides armed security at military bases across the UK mainland.

Our primary role is to counter the terrorist threat posed to these bases.

Our key responsibilities include:
Managing and responding to security incidents, such as suspicious packages or protests.
Patrolling site perimeters and taking necessary action to preserve perimeter security.
Controlling entry and exit points, ensuring efficient visitor management.
Military Working Dog services are also provided at selected sites. We have units located at over 120 sites across the UK mainland.

We offer flexible deployment options through our Military Local Service Contract, allowing soldiers to choose where they wish to serve.


Essential Requirements:

  • Background - At least 3 years prior Military Service, or currently serving in any arm of the British Military.
  • Age - Over 18 years and under 57 years of age at re-enlistment.
  • Fitness Eligibility - Medically fit with a Body Mass Index below 32.
  • Driving Licence - Full UK driving licence with less than 8 penalty points.

Eligibility for Previously Served Personnel:

  • Gap Since Leaving Service - Former Cpl/LH (or equivalent) and above ranks with no more than a 10 year gap of service, and for former non substantive Cpl/LH and below ranks who have a gap of service of no more than 6 years.
  • Previous Service Check - Your previous service records will be checked and final authorisation to proceed with the application must be given by the Army Personnel Centre.
