We are seeking a skilled and motivated Heavy Vehicle Repair Technician to join our team at Wales Bus and Body Repairs in Smithfield. As part of the AMA Group Australia, we pride ourselves on delivering top-notch repairs to heavy vehicles and providing exceptional customer service.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified and enthusiastic individual to work under the guidance of experienced mechanics and technicians to develop their skills and expertise in the field of heavy vehicle repair.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning, sanding, and masking vehicle surfaces to prepare them for paint
  • Mixing and matching paint colours to accurately match desired colours
  • Using spray guns and other equipment to apply paint evenly and smoothly onto vehicle surfaces
  • Applying primers and sealers to promote paint adhesion, prevent rust, and create a solid foundation for the topcoat
  • Applying multiple layers of paint, including basecoat, clearcoat, and other specialized coatings
  • Skilfully blending new paint into existing areas
  • Performing detailed touch-ups to correct imperfections
  • Creating special textures, patterns, or effects using different techniques
  • Monitoring and controlling drying and curing processes
  • Inspecting painted surfaces for flaws
  • Adhering to safety protocols, using proper ventilation, protective gear, and ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others

You will be required to follow all safety policies and procedures, handle company tools and equipment with care, and complete any necessary course theory work by the due date.

  • Willingness to learn and take direction: You will need to follow instructions from experienced staff and be open to learning new techniques and skills
  • Attention to detail and an eye for colour: Spray painting requires precision and the ability to match colours accurately
  • Genuine desire, commitment, and enthusiasm to build a career in the heavy motor repair industry

We offer a competitive salary of $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a range of benefits including rewards and recognition, career development and training, referral bonuses, discounts on parts and tools, uniforms, and access to professional counselling services.
