Full-Time General Practitioner Opportunity

The practice offers a supportive environment with a dedicated team, modern equipment, and state-of-the-art technology. As a training practice, there are opportunities for professional development and growth.

The clinic is situated in the heart of Sarina, close to the hospital and main shopping centre. Allied health professionals visit patients at the clinic, including tele-psychologists, exercise physiologists, diabetic educators, gynaecologists, optometrists, mental health nurses, and audiologists.

The Medical Centre has a dedicated skin clinic with an HD Molemax and serves as an allocated Covid vaccination clinic. The practice caters to a diverse clientele, including young and retired individuals, mine workers, and travellers. Family medicine covers broad general practice, occupational health, and private practice at Sarina Hospital. Referrals are made to the base hospital, and the practice is equipped for Telehealth Conferences.

About Sarina

Sarina is a rural town with approximately 15,000 people, located 35 km south of Mackay. It has five beautiful beaches, providing access to recreational activities, boating, and fishing. The Whitsunday Islands are nearby, easily accessible for viewing the Great Barrier Reef. The town features a public high school, state and Catholic primary schools, family day-care services, and bus services for workers and children travelling to Mackay.

The region boasts coal export facilities, sugar mills, and alcohol distilleries. Dairy farming, cattle grazing, tropical fruit growing, horticulture, aquaculture, fishing, and tourism contribute to the local economy. With a tropical climate, daily flights connect Sarina to Brisbane and neighbouring cities. Opportunities for family, spouse, and partner work exist in Mackay and the surrounding coal mines.

Position Requirements

This role involves working weekday morning and afternoon sessions (nominally 8 hours per day) with a weekday afternoon off duty, which can be optional. Doctors also work one Saturday in four. Procedural skills like minor operations, including skin excisions, curettes, and biopsies, are advantageous but not necessary, with supervision and training provided. The patient load per week is approximately 150/week. After-hours workload is minimal due to Sarina Hospital's emergency care services.

Applicants must hold MBBS qualifications and General Practitioner registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Successful candidates may be eligible for support and financial assistance through Health Workforce Queensland's workforce attraction and retention incentives.
