About the Role

The University of Melbourne is seeking a highly skilled Research Ethics Specialist to join our Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) team. As a key member of our Ethics Shared Service model, you will play a critical role in providing administrative support for animal ethics submissions, ensuring compliance with relevant principles, University policies, and regulatory requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and act as Secretary to an Animal Ethics Committee (AEC), liaising with researchers and staff to resolve issues and provide expert advice on animal ethics.
  • Support the ethics review process, maintaining accurate records and contributing to training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support a positive compliance culture under the direction of the Senior Research Ethics Officer and the Manager, Animal Ethics.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, capable of distilling complex information into clear and concise outcomes. Your ability to manage confidential matters with discretion, provide high-level advice, deliver training to diverse audiences, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines effectively will be essential.

Requirements

  • A degree in sciences or equivalent expertise and experience in research administration.
  • Knowledge of ethical research principles and external regulatory frameworks, such as the POCTA Act.
  • Familiarity with the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
