James Cook University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced medical educator and practitioner to join our team as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Medicine. This is a continuing, part-time position (20%) based at the Cairns Bada-jali campus and Cairns Rural Clinical School (Cairns Hospital).
About the Role:
We are looking for a passionate and experienced medical practitioner or educator who can contribute to the delivery of Year 4 teaching at the Cairns Rural Clinical School, supporting the Year 4 Academic Coordinator. The successful candidate will actively participate in small group teaching sessions, such as Clinical Pathological Cases (CPCs) and Clinical Investigations (CLIX), and assist in the coordination, teaching, and assessment of the Year 4 curriculum on campus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the delivery of Year 4 teaching at the Cairns Rural Clinical School
- Support the Year 4 Academic Coordinator in the coordination, teaching, and assessment of the Year 4 curriculum
- Actively participate in small group teaching sessions, such as Clinical Pathological Cases (CPCs) and Clinical Investigations (CLIX)
- Assist in the coordination, teaching, and assessment of the Year 4 curriculum on campus
- Ensure that students receive comprehensive academic and pastoral support as their Academic Advisor
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the medical curriculum, providing leadership in the delivery of the Year 4 program within the College of Medicine & Dentistry
- Engage in scholarship and collaborative research focused on medical education and health service delivery in regional and remote areas
Requirements:
- Degree in medicine, plus additional degree or postgraduate qualifications in medicine, medical science or education and/or equivalent relevant professional experience in a field related to medicine or medical education
- Proven experience in teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical education
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical care
- Demonstrated understanding of skills required to successfully function as a rural and remote practitioner
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with medical practitioners, health professionals and students
- Advanced organisational and administrative skills with an ability to plan and work under general guidance with limited supervision
Additional Requirements for Appointment at Level C:
- Fellowship with an Australian Specialist College, or equivalent
- Substantial experience in the provision of clinical care in rural and/or remote areas
