Job Description

As a Senior Social Worker in the Cancer Services Department, you will be responsible for providing advanced social work services to patients and their families/significant others within The Alfred Hospital. This role requires consultation with colleagues and staff from other disciplines on relevant issues as required, and providing advanced casework expertise.

The Social Worker will be required to complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments and have a good understanding of hospital discharge planning processes. You will also be required to perform work that requires special knowledge and depth of experience of Family Violence/ Child Protection/ NDIS processes and supports. An understanding of working with an Electronic medical record will also be desirable for this role.

This position may be required to work at any or all campuses of the Alfred Health as and when required. Such a requirement may be ongoing, a temporary arrangement, on an ad hoc basis or a permanent change of location. The ability to work one weekend day per month would be required for this role.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Bachelor of Social Work, or recognised equivalent
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and with families, exhibiting initiative and facilitative qualities
  • Knowledge of current Legislation and Policy in relation to Social Work in a hospital setting

Desirable:

  • Working towards or Postgraduate qualifications in Social Work or a related field
  • Hospital-based work experience
  • Sound IT Skills
