We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Aboriginal Peer Support Worker to join our Suicide Prevention Outreach Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic, recovery-oriented support to individuals experiencing suicidality. This will involve engaging with local Aboriginal communities, leaders, and support services to improve access to health services and outcomes for Aboriginal people at risk of suicide.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities in the Northern Rivers region. As an Aboriginal Peer Support Worker, you will draw on your lived experience and cultural knowledge to provide authentic engagement and support to individuals in crisis.

Responsibilities
  • Holistic Support: Provide non-clinical support to individuals experiencing suicidality, focusing on their physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
  • Cultural Engagement: Engage with local Aboriginal communities, leaders, and support services to improve access to health services and promote culturally-safe care.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate rapid crisis support and response as needed.
  • Lived Experience: Utilize your lived experience to facilitate hope, confidence, and resilience in the recovery journey.
Qualifications and Eligibility
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (genuine occupational qualification).
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency, or lawful ability to live and work in Australia.
  • Ability to relocate or reside in the Northern Rivers region as required.
