About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Data Center Design Manager to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our global engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the design delivery of inflight and new build design projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of engineers in the design of data center critical infrastructure systems
  • Facilitate weekly meetings with internal engineer resources, internal customers, and external consultants to address design issues, meet design milestones, and escalate as needed
  • Drive process improvements, tool optimization, and prepare monthly/quarterly business review reports across region
  • Create and track metrics related to cost, quality, and duration of design, as well as collect data from construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented
  • Establish capital project design budgets and contribute to complex business cases for existing region and new region deployment
  • Collaborate with AWS finance teams to secure funding for projects
  • Work in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule engineering resources and influence design changes based on internal customer needs
  • Partner with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule, and deliverables
  • Manage document controller's workflow and audit of deliverables
  • Manage the interfaces, stakeholders' coordination, and have oversight on follow-through from due diligence to design, to construction to operations across project life cycle
  • Drive permits approvals and interface with respective AHJ

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture
  • Minimum of 10 years of Project Management or Project Lead experience, including RFQ/RFP process, selecting engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams, and facilitating meetings
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data center or mission critical facility design, with basic multidisciplinary knowledge of mission critical systems, design process, pre-construction requirements, and the construction process
  • Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from building code and construction change orders
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers, develop basic business case financial projections, and create performance metrics
